Andean Guardian of Pachamama

Verónica Sacta Campos, a woman of Cañari-Inca roots, carries the ancestral message of Sumak Kawsay (the good living) from the Andean worldview. Her work focuses on the defense of Pachamama.

An activist in ecosocial movements and a promoter of a sustainable culture of peace, she has spread her vision in America and the world. She is a driving force behind the Rights of Mother Earth, playing a key role in its inclusion in the Constitution of Mexico City.

Co-founder of the Council of Sustainable Settlements of Latin America (CASA Latina) and Ambassador of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN), she has articulated networks of change for the flourishing of resilient and sustainable communities.

She is an expert in the United Nations' "Harmony with Nature" program and was an advisor in the constitutional process of Chile.

She has been recognized with the Peace Prize Mexico 2021 and the award of Latin American Leader for peace, human rights, and ecology by UNESCO in 2024.

She promotes the recognition of ecocide in the International Criminal Court and coordinates the initiative Mexico without Ecocide.

As a grandmother of the Dance of the Moon, she has given rise to circles of Water Guardians in various countries, raising the voice of the indigenous peoples of the Andean south in favor of peace and planetary balance.
