Guardian of Teotihuacan Tradition

Carmen Julia Ruíz Romeroholds a degree in Business Administration, is a tourism entrepreneur, and a defender of the indigenous communities of the Teotihuacan Valley.

A member of the National Council of Nahuatl Culture since 2010 and President of its headquarters in Teotihuacan, she has been working since 2009 on the recognition of the communities of the Teotihuacan Valley as an indigenous population. In 2015, she founded the Indigenous Cultural Council of the Teotihuacan Valley, composed of prominent members of the region. In 2022, she founded the Indigenous Community Council of San Sebastián Xolalpan, where she has promoted artistic and cultural activities.

Her work has achieved official recognition of three communities in the Teotihuacan Valley (San Sebastián Xolalpan, San Francisco Mazapa, and Santiago Tepetitlán) by the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI).

In 2010, she received the Knight Eagle Order from the Knight Eagle Foundation A.C., of which she is President at its headquarters in Teotihuacan. In March 2025, she received the Testimonial Distinction of the Honorary Doctorate.

Currently, she focuses her efforts on the recovery of indigenous identity in the Teotihuacan Valley through social, artistic, and cultural activities.
