Accountant and Time Synchronizer from the Maya Cosmovision
José Baudilio Sis, also known as B’alamb’e (Jaguar Guardian of the Path) and Ajq’ij (Accountant and Time Synchronizer from the Maya Cosmovision), is a Maya Achi, belonging to one of the 22 ethnic groups of the Maya culture in Guatemala. His life is an example of resistance, wisdom, and dedication to the service of indigenous peoples, dedicating his existence to the ancestral identity reclamation and the strengthening of the spirituality and millennial knowledge of his people.
Academically, Dr. Sis holds a PhD in Political Science and Sociology, a Master's in Management for Sustainable Development, and a Bachelor's in Social Work. Additionally, he is a Master's in Primary Education, with extensive experience in training, research, and advising on interculturality, gender relations, and the journey of indigenous peoples. In his commitment to spirituality and ancestral wisdom, he has worked as K’amalb’e (Executive Coordinator) of the Council of Ajq’ijab’ B’alam Saqb’e, training new Ajq’ijab’ and accompanying spiritual processes in various Maya territories and beyond their borders. His career has been recognized with multiple distinctions, including: Oxlajuj B’aqtum (A New Cycle for a New Dawn), Guatemala 2012; Ixim Order from the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Guatemala 2017; Peace Button and Flag in Palenque, Mexico, 2024; Numerous recognitions for his educational work and his contribution to the transmission of ancestral knowledge.
