Guardian of Ancestral Wisdom of the Sacred Temazcal
A woman with deep ancestral roots, Violeta García Ledesma has dedicated her life to the service of Mother Earth and the community. Her work encompasses environmental issues, the rescue of traditions, and healing through the temazcal, making her a reference point for knowledge and action.
Born in Mexico City and descended from a family originally from Guanajuato, Violeta has tirelessly worked on comprehensive waste management, ecological education, and the promotion of traditional temazcal. She has been recognized for her work with various awards, including the National Environmental Award in the Citizen Category (2007).
As the leader of the Calpulli and Casa de Medicina y Enseñanza Totójcalli, Violeta has rescued and disseminated traditional temazcal in its various forms and has promoted solidarity exchanges between communities. With 18 years in the Dance of the Moon and 8 years serving in the Dance of the Sun, she has strengthened the connection with ancestral ceremonial practices.
Violeta has planted over 300 names with Anahuac identity cards and has shared her knowledge through teaching Tonalpohualli, reading Tonalamat, energetic cleansings, Nepohualtzitzin, the sacred fire offering, reading corn, and egg diagnosis. She has built and guided more than 120 traditional temazcales, preserving traditional knowledge and healing through fire and earth, benefiting future generations.
