Artist and Dancer
Carlos Ortega was born on the sunny morning of February 22, 1972, in Cuernavaca, Morelos, the heart of the state. The second to last of eight siblings, he showed great restlessness and a creative spirit from a young age. To support his high school studies, he dedicated himself to music, revealing his talent and discipline.
During his time in high school, Carlos participated in a state competition in anatomy and physiology. He took on the artistic coordination of the team and developed three works using pastel, acrylic, and ink techniques. His contribution was essential for the team to win, and this experience ignited a passion for painting and visual art in him.
After finishing high school, Carlos joined a Mexican comic studio as an assistant and apprentice, an activity he alternated with his musical talent. In 1998, his career as a professional illustrator took off when he worked as a lead artist for Novedades Editores. He participated in four nationally circulated magazines, marking the beginning of his journey in the world of graphic novels. His work led him to collaborate with five publishing houses in Mexico City.
In 1992, Carlos joined a traditional Aztec dance group, where he experienced a profound personal transformation. This experience led him to promote local tradition and culture in central Mexico, participating in cultural events and giving lectures, workshops, and courses at various educational institutions and universities in the state. He founded three dance groups in Cuernavaca, solidifying his commitment to local culture.
In 2006, the crisis in the comic book publishing industry drove him to reinvent himself as a leather craftsman and reproducer. Throughout his life, Carlos has demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt and a constant passion for art and culture.
