Ambassador of Women for World Peace, María del Carmen Icka Araki strongly represents the spirit of women guardians of the Earth and the balance between culture, community, and nature.
She is a recognized Rapa Nui leader with over 20 years of service to her community. Councilor of the Municipality of Easter Island from 2016 to 2024, she has promoted health projects, women's empowerment, animal welfare, local development, and drug and alcohol prevention.
Founder of the Active Woman and Rapa Nui Animalist foundations, she promotes women's participation, the defense of rights
of communities, the cultural and ancestral preservation of Rapa Nui, and the organization of the International Meeting of Women Leaders of the Americas. She is recognized by the Foundation for Documentation Sciences for her contribution to women's empowerment and is a promoter of scientific research on the rapamycin bacteria, discovered in Rapa Nui, applied in transplants.
